Beauty is skin deep. And a healthy skin reflects it. There are various cosmetic products available in the market to make you look young, but skin care should start in your early days. Cosmetics can help you conceal or even treat age lines and skin burns, but it cannot bring back your age. Skin care is no rocket science. You only need to devote some time of your daily schedule to take care of your skin. Did you know that our skin which comprises three layers - (outer) epidermis, (middle) dermis, and (inner) subcutaneous - is the largest organ in our body?!
Charity begins at home, and so should your skin care! Start with a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle with no exercise coupled with a bad food pattern, alcohol and smoking, will definitely show on your face - tired skin and lost charm. All your skin care efforts will be in vain if your body does not get enough sleep. Sleep well, and you will see a remarkable difference in your looks.
Eight hours of sleep is mandatory for a healthy body and a glowing skin. Inculcate the habit of practicing meditation or other stress busting techniques to relieve stress. Eat a balanced diet comprising of cereals, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Include lots of fresh fruits - citrus fruits such as grapes, and oranges are known to revitalize the skin. Drink plenty of water, minimum 10 glasses in a day. Avoid aerated drinks and most important, alcohol. Alcohol drains off the life from your skin, and gives it a bloated dull look. Chuck cocktails and enjoy mocktails instead!
Once you have brought a diet and exercise regime into action, you have achieved a milestone in skin care. The next step to follow is Cleansing. Wash and clean your face regularly with plenty of water. If you use cleansers, make sure you wash it off thoroughly to avoid clogging of facial pores. Use good moisturizers to keep your skin moist during winters. Avoid oily products. If you plan to step out in the sun, apply a sunscreen lotion with high SPF (Sun Protection Factor). Treat yourself to a facial once in two months to get rid of the dead cells.
Cosmetic treatments available in the market can bring the charm back to your skin, but at a heavy price. If you are ready to pay, go ahead. If you have the time and patience and an urge to genuinely adopt skin care methods the natural way, there are plenty of home- based remedies. Try applying honey to moisturize your skin; a combination of honey and milk works wonders! Cucumber is a natural cleanser; use it to remove dark circles from your eyes. Dry orange peels and powder them; this serves as natural bleach. Rub lemon wedges on your body to remove tan and get a glow. A mixture of egg white and honey also helps in removing tan from the body.
So, what are you waiting for? Spare a few minutes for daily skin care and experience the magic of a new and beautiful you!
